Students working while in college Essay Example for Free
Students working while in college Essay Back in 70ââ¬â¢s and 80ââ¬â¢s, going to college and getting a degree did not seem much of a necessary thing to do. Students, who used to have enough time, enough money or much interest in doing so, used to go to college. Other students, by the end of their high school used to start looking for jobs good enough to support them and any dependents, if they had, financially. Even till not very long ago, going to college was more of a privilege, not a necessity. However, with growing competition all around the world, and increasing globalization and the world becoming a global village with multicultural workforces and amalgamated employee bases, going to college is becoming more and more of a necessity with every passing day. In fact, it has already become inevitable for most of the students in most parts of the world to have a good college degree in addition to proper experience and a set of competitive skills and abilities, in order to get a good, reputable job that earns a good sum of money for oneââ¬â¢s living respectably. This fact, created great financial problems for the not-so-rich students, who could not afford the college education required to get them a good job. This might even have led to disparity among the population since the poor students who could not afford good college education would not have got good jobs either and would always have remained poor. This would have gone on and on. Eventually, these students either needed financial aid or any other means to generate money to pay the college fee and earn a degree. Many solutions were figured out. One way out are financial aids and scholarships. Another way to finance college education is to work while one studies at college earning the money for tuition along side Financial Aid and Scholarships One alternative to working while studying at college is to avail financial aids and scholarships. Financial aids are special loans provided to students who cannot afford college education to enable them to complete their studies and then pay the loan back slowly and gradually either during the course of their studies or later on when they have finished their educational life and start working. As far as scholarships are concerned, they are the special kind of the financial aid which does not need to be paid back. These scholarships can be provided under special programs by the government, NGOââ¬â¢s, any other private body or even the college/university itself. They might either be fully paid or partially paid (by a fixed percent). The Scholarships can either be merit based (when a student is exceptionally good at studies, that his education expenses are exempted or paid; in this case, the student should not be necessarily needy) or need based (when the student is good enough but cannot finance his education so his education fee needs to be exempted or paid). (Petersons, 2003) However, this is not always the case and is not applicable practically everywhere for many a reason. As far as financial aids are concerned, the problem with them is that they have to be paid back sooner or later, one way or the other. So, if other options are available, why take them in the first place? And the scholarships are obviously in a limited number. More over, not everyone can get a scholarship. For example, a student might be needy and interested in studying at college at the same time, but he might not be a good student after all, and thus, the scholarship providing bodies would not want to risk their money after someone who might not even graduate. (Petersons, 2003). More over, these scholarships might not cover the accommodation and other expenses of the students who might even be from other countries for sake of education. These and related expenses need to be paid for by the student one way or the other. These and many other financial problems of the students can be solved by working while studying at the college. This can help the student earn enough money to pay for the college tuition fee as well as other expenses like accommodation, everyday expenses like transportation and all. (Orszag, Whitemore, 2001) Working While in College. During the last two decades, the number of students working (part time or full time) while going to college has increased at an incredibly fast rate. The prime reason for such a behavior, as mentioned above is the increasing demand of college degrees. In addition to this, awareness among the students and increased inclination towards studies has played a major role as well. Also, with inflation increasing at a dramatic rate all around the world, most parent who could afford higher education for their children do not appear to do so any more and thus they expect their children to finance their education, fully or partly, by themselves. More over, not only the working studentsââ¬â¢ ratio has increased, but the number of students working full time during their full time student life has increased drastically as well. Working students can be roughly categorized as the full time students who are working (full time or part time) to finance their living and education, that is the students who see themselves first as students and then as employees, and the students who work full time and are studying side by side with their work as part time students, that is the students who see themselves first as employees and then as students.

World War II :: World War 2 Two
World War 11 When the World War I broke out in 1914, with Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia. Americaââ¬â¢s first reaction was to stay out to conflict. President Wilson, in his speech to the Congress on August 19, 1914 said: "Every man who really loves America will act and speak in the true spirit of neutrality. The United States must be neutral in fact as well as in name during these days that are to try menââ¬â¢s souls. We must be impartial in thought as well as in action." All American leaders favored neutrality. While the entire European continent was divided into two camps: Germany, Austria, Hungary and Turkey as Central Powers were pitted against the Allied powers: Serbia, Britain, France, Belgium, Italy and Russia. As the war progressed, American public sympathies veered to the Allied side. Under the leadership of J.P. Morgan and Company many banking firms gave huge loans to the Allied powers. By international rules the neutral country could trade with any other neutral nation and also with other ââ¬â¢belligerentââ¬â¢ countries not facing a blockade. The Americans wished to continue trade with both belligerent sides. In the initial stages of the war the British blockade of Germany created problems for the U.S. The British tried to stop all trade between Germany and the rest of the world. They extended their blockade by controlling imports to other neutral countries like Holland, Denmark and Sweden with are geographically close to Germany The Americans protested against the violation of neutral rights though Wilson never put undue pressure on England as no U.S. citizen lost his life due to the blockade. Moreover, all cargo seized was paid for at war. It was the German use of submarines in the war that brought the U.S. in direct confrontation with Germany. The German submarines fired indiscriminately at neutral ships too. The last straw was when the British passenger liner ââ¬â¢Lusitaniaââ¬â¢ was sunk by German submarines on May 7. It resulted in the loss of 1,200 lives which included 128 Americans. The American public was outraged. President Wilson immediately demanded compensation from Germany in a series of notes to Berlin. The tone of these notes was very crisp and harsh. Ten months after the incident, Germany apologized for the sinking and offered a compensation for the loss. But the U.S. was not satisfied. Wilson wanted to make Germany stop the use of submarines in the war.

Thereââ¬â¢s nothing wrong in buying terms papers
On-line paper assistance services are a fast growing kind of business. When we browse the internet, a large number of sites are available in giving paper assistance services. This kind of business saturated the internet. These sites earn a great amount of money everyday and they continue to grow and reproduce in number. This has been one of the most serious issues that schools all over world are dealing. They deem that this kind of business is unethical and immoral. The academic world views this kind of business as a business that teaches the students to be dishonest and lazy in their academic performance instead of teaching them to be responsible and hard working for the attainment of their academic advancement. Indeed, most people view this business as an academic disease. This is a disease that slowly eats the integrity of the academic world and slowly erodes its ethical status, a disease that is very hard to battle. Most students nowadays are fond of ordering papers from the said businesses above.Students just visit sites and after a moment, their term papers are ready for submission. Instead of making their own paper, they would rather opt to order and buy a paper made by these sites in the internet because of the promise of getting a high standard that will result to goods for the students. Students donââ¬â¢t work hard and sweat anymore for their papers. Given the situation in todayââ¬â¢s academic world, a question arises. Is it ethical to buy terms papers? This paper is a position paper regarding the posed question. The position of the writer is ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s nothing wrong in buying term papersââ¬â¢. This paper will provide arguments regarding the claim and hopefully make the academic world view term papersââ¬â¢ buying as not a wrong act but rather an act of helping students achieve their dreams of a better and fulfilling life in the future. REASONS FOR THE CLAIM Thereââ¬â¢s nothing wrong in buying term papers in paper assistance bus inesses. This claim comes from the reason that this kind of business helps a lot of people achieve their dreams of a better life. This macro-level reason for the position will be backed up by three sub- reasons. First, students can save time in buying term papers and the saved time can be used in working in order to earn. Second, an academically poor student does not necessarily mean a poor employee in the future. Third, the assistance students get from paper assistance sites will most probably give them high grades which are vital in their employment application in the future. It is of a great fact that many students are not full-time students. Many students are also working to help support their own education.A lot of families are in financial crisis all over the world. Studentsââ¬â¢ as also workers give great relief to their families in terms of being able to find means to support their studies. In ordering term papers, students can save time and effort in making it themselves. After ordering, the student will just wait for the order to arrive. The trade in of costs of payment to sites where they order and the cost of studentsââ¬â¢ potential income as working is beneficial to the students. This statement will be further discussed below.Let us try to examine a baby- sitting job. A baby sitter earns $7 an hour. A student will spend time writing a 5- page paper for 10 hours including research of the topic. Ten hours is already a significant amount of time. A paper assistance business will probably charge their clients at an average of $8 per page. A 5-page paper will then cost $40. The income of an 8 hour work by a baby sitter is $ 56. In this situation, the benefit that a working student will get from ordering a term paper is $16 in quantity. $16 then is of big help in support for his daily needs. In the situation above, not only the student benefits from the income he gets but also it lightens the load of his parents in supporting his studies. This is a manifestation of a good son or daughter to his parents. The opportunity from saving time gives a student the means to continue his education and achieve his goal of graduating. The student will benefit financially from ordering a term paper and the financial benefit will be vital for his education and his life in general. An academically poor student does not necessarily mean a poor employee in the future. Many employees achieved the top in a certain company or organization without a very good college grades record to show. They just achieved their success by working hard and never ceasing the determination to succeed. Achieving success in working careers does not reside in having high grades in college but in the determination of the person to be on top of the company or organization, to be successful. Determination is the biggest element of success. To say that a student who is poor in academic performance will become poor in his performance as an employee is a fallacy. Many teacher s are caught up with looking at the academic performance of their students instead of looking at the attitude of perseverance and determination. Ordering a term paper will help poor academic performers have good grades. Having good grades will make them graduate and will give them an opportunity to be employed. Being an employee does not mean writing term papers again. Letââ¬â¢s try to look at one example. A teacher in philosophy advised his students to make a term paper regarding Platoââ¬â¢s definition of love.In an employeeââ¬â¢s life, there can be no way that he can ever put Platoââ¬â¢s love in the context of the organization he is working and to the nature of his job. What is needed for an employee is not how wide is his understanding on Platoââ¬â¢s philosophy but on his performance in the nature of his job or career. Only if a student will become a teacher himself that he needs that kind of knowledge to be applied. Most people are caught up with grades as the bas is for judging the capacity of a person. Ordering terms papers which has the high possibility of having good grades will then be a way of a student to have good grades.Having good grades will produce a big possibility of good employment. A good employment status is what most or perhaps all people aim in life. Therefore, ordering term papers can help the students to get high grades and have a good employment in the future. There is nothing wrong ordering term papers. In the discussion above, ordering term papers only becomes an avenue for a lot of good opportunities and benefits. The act of ordering is a great means in achieving the dream of most people to graduate in college. The end in this situation is of good side. These businesses are means in making people achieve their dreams. This act is so vital in peopleââ¬â¢s lives that it must not be condemned and looked upon as unethical and immoral, rather, this kind of act must be looked upon as essential to many peopleââ¬â¢s live s. In helping people achieve their dreams, another good thing will be given birth. The family of the students will benefit from the success of their sons and daughters. Finding a good job for the students would mean earning a significant amount of money.Earning a significant amount of money would then give an employee a capacity of not only supporting himself but also in giving help to his parents. This is the aspect of life that people must look upon, the aspect of life that entails responsibility of a son to his parents, an aspect of life that is essential. Another good situation that will arise by benefiting from ordered term papers is the situation of giving the next generations a good life. Every student that became an employee will have his own family in the future. In having his own family in the future, he will surely raise children. These children need a good life for them to grow in a good environment. The ability of the childrenââ¬â¢s parents to give them a good life co mes from good employment. Good employment comes from good grades in college and good grades in college come from ordered term papers. The discussed reasons above are the oneââ¬â¢s giving grounds to the claim that thereââ¬â¢s nothing wrong in ordering term papers. The basis for my arguments is J. S. Millsââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"Utilitarianismâ⬠. His philosophy states that ââ¬Å"the end justifies the meansâ⬠. It is very true that ordered term papers will give birth to a lot of good effects. As long as the end benefits a lot of people and as long as it gives happiness to a greater number of people, the means are ethical. CONCLUSION Therefore, ordering term papers are only means to a desired end that will benefit a greater number of people, thus, making it a right thing to do. This is due to the fact that ordered term papers will give students a chance to get good grades. Having good grades will then produce a good employment opportunity for them. Being employed in a good earnin g job, they will be able to help their parents and give their future children a better environment to grow.BIBLIOGRAPHYFerrari, Joseph R. Teacher Classroom Preparation and Setup for a First Grade...
Phase 1 Learning Environment I am a believer that the environment in a classroom will not only be a place of academics, but an environment that is inclusive to fostering personal growths as well as relationships. A classroom should embrace diversity in a cultural and cognitive nature as well. I have envisioned my own classroom with 20 first grade children. The layout of the classroom I have provided is what I feel would be the way I would have the class set up for the beginning of a fall semester. As the school year progresses I will have changes and additions to the classroom as needs to be accommodated. I am also a believer to keeps students busy and engaged. This includes changing the seating arrangements every two or three weeks, this keeps the students engaged in new relationships and the dynamics of their cognitive learning with activities at a different challenge. Different students have different things to bring to a group. The physical layout of my classroom would ideally be in groups of four. I will ensure that all students will have the ability to face the front of the class where instruction is held most of the time. Half of my students will be facing the front of the classroom while the other students will still be able to face the front while having their desks at 90 degree turned. The student who is found to be a visual processing disorder will be sitting in the front and I will have this student sitting next to a general education student.Show MoreRelatedPros and Cons of Differentiated Instruction1373 Words à |à 6 PagesHey guys. Essay on Affirmative Action - 1094 Words
After you graduate from college, you will be putting in your application for a job that you went to college for. Even though you might be the most qualified for the job you still might not obtain the position. Affirmative Action sometimes causes this because companies have to hire a certain number of minorities relative to the size of the company. This means that if there are no minority citizens available, immigrants who arenââ¬â¢t even US citizens can take the position. This is why Affirmative Action should be readjusted, because it is helping immigrants instead of the people it was meant for, American citizens. The fact is that the current Affirmative Action plan is helping immigrants more than it is helping the American people. Forâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Some say that Affirmative Action needs to stay because companies should hire a quota of minorities into their company. Many voices say that quotas are used to right the past wrongs when so many minority groups were discriminated against. That no matter what minority that you are from you still deserve some form of compensation for the wrongs that were done not only to your ethninicity, but also to their past family relatives. This is a true point that is worth looking at, but fro how long will the white male have to lose out on jobs that he is more qualified for because of mistakes in the past. We need to look at this from the aspect of what Affirmative Action was originally set up for. Affirmative Actions original intentions, in the 1960ââ¬â¢s, were to correct the wrongs that minorities have gone through throughout history, such as slavery, racism, and other horrible anti-minority practices. It just never occurred to government planners, when they made up the affirmative action plan, that there would be so many immigrants in the US and that they would be considered minorities. Robb says, ââ¬Å"because affirmative action is keyed to race and ethnicity, without regard to American nationality, foreign citizens routinely get special considerationâ⬠(Robb 3). Greed in Candide - 1779 Words
11.10.11 Engl 2333 Greed in Candide In Voltaireââ¬â¢s novella Candide, the main characterââ¬â¢s newly found wealth from an idealized Eldorado is exploited by the worldââ¬â¢s fixation of greed that ultimately effects himself and others as he learns that money cannot buy happiness. Candide is brought up amongst greed, reared in a castle in a small corner of the world in Westphalia with the privileges of being the son of a baronââ¬â¢s sister, his life is ultimately influenced by this example of money and power. His journey into the world, after his expulsion, begins with the notion that ââ¬Å"everything is for the bestâ⬠from his philosopher Pangloss that every cause has a reaction (Voltaire 2). It isnââ¬â¢t until he is out of Europe traveling with his servantâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Eldoradoââ¬â¢s jewels create ambitious greed in Candide, overshadowing his main concern of surviving for his Cunegonde. Candide truly believes in the philosophy that indeed everything is for the best and Eldo rado is the ideal place for this notion to flourish but he leaves this ââ¬Å"beautiful dreamâ⬠out of spite because he cannot function in a society that cannot be bought (Silver 2). The very true world he despises is actually the only place he has succeeded. After leaving Eldorado with numerous sheep packed with goods and ââ¬Å"fifty loaded with gold, jewels, and diamondsâ⬠they are only left with two after a hundred days march that strained the convoy to its limits of starvation (Voltaire 39). They reach a Dutch town where they learn that Miss Cunegonde is a mistress to the governor in Buenos Aires and set out to find a merchant ship to set sail. The Spanish merchant Candide and Cacambo hire to transport them tells them they must not return for fear of being hanged and instead sends Cacambo with several millions to purchase her away. The men were to rendezvous in Italy once Candide secured a second vessel to take him. He finally procures a Dutch ship captained by a Mr. Vanderdendur who offers to take Candide to Italy for ââ¬Å"ten thousand piastersâ⬠, notices the ease at which he agrees and soon increases the fee to twenty then ââ¬Å"thirty thousand piastersâ⬠(Voltaire 41). One of those symbolic figures that seems to stand out in the story is the character Candide, a gullible and innocent boy who experiences many hardships after being vanished from the castle of the baron von Thunder-ten-tronckh. Candide seems to be a representation of peoples innocence and how they tend to lose it throughout their lifetime as they witness and experience new things in the world and grow wary ofRead MoreThe Candide : An Era Of Enlightenment Philosopher Essay1355 Words à |à 6 Pagespopular among the masses for his philosophy. Candide, one of Voltaire s more famous works, expresses lack of reasoning in optimistic philosophy, for the application of practical issues. Candideââ¬â¢s journey is expressed in a quick turnover of events, leaving the reader unavailable to emotionally attach themselves to tragedies; however, Candideââ¬â¢s transformation to an ethical individual is expressed by the lack of practical use of optimistic philosophy. Candide was written during first contact between theRead MoreRoad to El Dorado Essay597 Words à |à 3 Pagescourse, none of them did. In Candide, Voltaire describes a city that is equivalent to any Golden City. This world is the ideal world that almost anyone would like to live in. However, when Candide finds his Golden City, known as El Dorado, he leaves it. One might wonder why Candide left El Dorado, but there were many well justified reasons for Candides departure from the perfect world he was searching for. Candide gives several arguments for leaving El Dorado. Candide wants to find Cunegund, andRead MoreThe Theory Of Human Emotion1561 Words à |à 7 Pages Human emotion is often defined as the enemy of pure reason and logic as it may inhibit rational decision-making. Though emotions can seem to limit logical reason at times, emotions only transform reason in different ways. Voltaire in his book, Candide, mocks this inevitable combination of emotion and reason, while Roussea u in Discourse on the Origin of Inequality criticizes it for its effects on society. Human sentiments do not simply impede, but rather they change human reasoning in what that mayRead MoreCandide Redemption Essay741 Words à |à 3 Pagesremarks and came to the conclusion that to be relieved of the boredom and squabbling they were experiencing, the little group should develop and use their talents for the good of everyone; together and individually, they must cultivate their garden. Part of Candides redemption may be using his own mind to decide that while there is not one best of all possible worldsRead MoreVoltaires Candide and Mockery Essay1209 Words à |à 5 PagesOn the surface, Voltaireââ¬â¢s Candide seems to be about every stupidity, every transgression, and every immoral act conceivable to man. It is a satirical and absurd look at life and re ligion. It makes a mockery of organized religious institutions and leaders. The hypocrisy of the actions of these leaders makes the reader wonder if Voltaire is against every religious order and even God, or is it simply the hypocrisy he abhors. In examining this book, it is a satirical way of looking at the hypocrisyRead MoreEssay on Voltaires Candide Character Analysis1426 Words à |à 6 PagesVoltaires Candide Character Analysis Voltaires Candide seems to display a world of horror, one filled with floggings, rapes, robberies, unjust executions, disease, natural disasters, betrayals and cannibalism. Pangloss, the philosopher, has a constant optimistic view throughout the entire novel even despite all of the cruelty in the world. Quite literally dying to be thin Essay Example For Students
Quite literally dying to be thin Essay Im not here to bore you or lecture you on something that will never concern any of you. Im standing here in front of you all to tell you of something that affects everyone everyday. I know not only from research but, from person experience. A heart braking memory Im willing to share in the hope I may possibly help reach out to someone. If I make this speech five hundred times and save one life I will have accomplished far more than a lot of people out there. I wake up in the middle on the night sometimes, sweating, crying. I have so much guilt built up inside me. All because people judge you before they know a thing about you. People see someone who is over weight and instantly assume that person sits on a sofa eating big Macs all day. Ok for some people the thought of a gym or a salad frightens them to death but for a lot more of these people this isnt true. There are a number of reasons that person maybe retaining weight. So anyway I bet you wondering how this constantly makes me cry wellà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ Steph was my best friend. Wed grown up together, went through primary, secondary and even college together. She had a smile as wide as the ocean and a wardrobe any 16-year-old girl would be proud of. So she wasnt the perfect size 8 but no one was bothered. She was such a laugh; I can remember memories of us like yesterday, laughing so hard my sides hurt and rolling round the floor crying. It was a Friday night and we were off to a local disco. Steph asked me if she looked ok, and she did. She looked better that ok she was glowing. She said shed been skipping a few meals and was really happy because she could finally fit into the red skirt I brought her for her birthday over a year before. Through pure ignorance I praised her claiming she looked radiant. That night was ruined! Some childish, stupid, heartless little boy called James Wright ruined the whole night in one fowl sentence. Oi fatty breath in I aint got all night to get round ya Harsh as it was I doubt Steph would have been so devastated if it hadnt came from James. James was the captain of the football team at our college. Steph was in love with him. So much in love in fact she brought his tutor photo off a kid in his class for Ãâà £50. Steph was like that. From that night things seemed to change. Steph had an eating disorder. She lost pound after pound and became little more than skin and bone. It wasnt just physical differences I noticed, she wasnt the girl I once knew. The girl who had a warm smile and a hug for everyone became the girl whose skinà flaked and whose hair fell out. The girl who would race against the boys and usually win became the girl who cheered them on instead. The girl who never lied became lost in a sea of dishonesty, in a feeble attempt to cover the truth. The girl, who told everyone to be true to themselves, was telling herself the biggest lie of all. It went unnoticed for far too long. A friend or family member suffering from an Eating Disorder can be very frightening. You want to help that person but you arent sure what you can do, you dont even know what to say. Our once fun and giggles turned to awkward looks and silence. I wish id have paid more attention to what was coming out of her mouth rather than whats going in. .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c , .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .postImageUrl , .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c , .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c:hover , .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c:visited , .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c:active { border:0!important; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c:active , .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2dce19e6cfd79bb9680cdace98a7540c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy EssaySo why does society dictate that we should be stick thin with blonde hair and long legs? Surely its whats inside that counts? Maybe one day someone will create a dress that looks good on all of us. Maybe one day if I have grandchildren they will not know what an Eating Disorder is. If I had one wish it would be that we could all look past the appearancesometimes a pretty package holds an empty giftsometimes a package wrapped in plain paper, with no bows or ribbons, holds a diamond. Unfortunately, the media and the public continue to idolize ultra thin actresses and models. Its the first thing you see when you turn on the television or open a paper. So do these people, youths aspire to be like really deserve the admiration we give them? I pray that the next generation of women raised on girl power realise that the real power comes from within us, and that every person should be ruled by her own expectations and not one society dictates. I have read lots of statistics of eating disorders yet there is more behind those statistics that you read. Behind those statistics are people. Those numbers represent lives, lives that have been lost due to eating disorders. They are mothers. They are sisters. They are aunts. They are daughters. They are wives. One of those numbers was a very close friend of mine. This wasnt a one off problem. Thousands of people die every year due to eating disorders, that isnt fictional its fact. This cannot be argued with, however the fact that we can help can be. Im quite sure a lot of you sitting in front of me are self-conscious. You choose particular outfits because they make your bum or stomach looks smaller or your boobs look bigger. We all want people to be attracted to us, its natural but it seems its also natural to point out other peoples short comings. So do we do this to restore our own confidence? I think the bigger question is do we understand what were doing to that certain individual and the impact were putting on their lives. Steph became really ill and was admitted to a special clinic. I tried to talk to her but I just didnt understand. I tried everything; the nice approach, the honesty, the tears. Nothing worked. It was making me bad and I couldnt bear to see her parents that way. I had her mom crying to me, asking me to talk to her. I did my best. I decided I wanted the old Steph back. I went to visit the day after and told her how I felt, how she was killing herself and how she was selfish and couldnt see how much hurt she was putting here parents threw. We had our first real argument that night. She died in her sleep the night after we argued. Dearest Steph I hope that you had good dreams that night. I hope that you dreamed, and you know that I love you, and am very sorry that we couldnt have parted ways on better terms. But Steph, I love you hun, everyday that passes, youre in my thoughts! I miss your smiling face and those eyes! And to be quite truthful Im having trouble accepting the fact that youre gone, so I wont. I just see it that we are going a while without seeing each other. I can understand why God would want you close to him, as you truly was an angel on earth. I love you and I miss you. I thank you for listening and hope even a little of what I said made you think. Its far easier to focus on bad things than good so all I ask is for you to think before you speak.
